Meet Wendy. Wendy recently moved from being a registered nurse to a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist<\/a>. She is passionate and cares deeply for all her patients. In case you are wondering exactly what that is, a nurse anesthetist provides anesthesia care before and after surgical procedures. As you can imagine, that level of skill took several years and lots of studying, but she did it even with 3 kids at home! We asked her a few questions about her passion in life: nursing. She responded with some great answers and some inspiration for all the little nurses in the world.<\/p>\n

Q: How long have you been a nurse?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> I have been a registered nurse for 18 years and a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for 4 years.<\/p>\n

Q: When did you know you wanted to be a nurse?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> I knew I wanted to be a teacher or a nurse in junior high but it wasn\u2019t until my senior year of high school that I settled on this career. I think what helped me choose was that I was selected by my peers and teachers as one of the most caring people in the upper class and was asked to attend a weekend retreat for learning how to help my fellow classmates who struggle with issues. It was there that I decided I wanted to care for people.<\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite part of the job?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> As a Registered Nurse my favorite part was traumas! I was mainly an ER nurse. I guess I love running on adrenaline! I loved to work on patients in bad trauma situations and then watch their road to recovery. As a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, my favorite part is wake up and when they are comfortable; I know I did my job! Anesthesia is a science and it takes just the right amount of drugs to maintain pain control and vital signs. It\u2019s awesome to be in control of that.<\/p>\n

Q: What do you wish kids knew about being a nurse?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> It\u2019s a hard job! Do not go into it for money. It\u2019s honestly a job you should be passionate about or feel \u201ccalled\u201d to do! It\u2019s probably one of the most rewarding careers out there but also one of the most difficult! Also, nurses are very smart and emotionally strong. Nurses are actually very intelligent and autonomous individuals.<\/p>\n

Q: Any fun facts about the job that most people don\u2019t know?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> Most Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist are type A personalities. We like to be in control of things and have things our way. We are meticulous with details and diligent with our care for our patients.<\/p>\n

Q: If you could do it again, would you still be a nurse?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/strong> ABSOLUTELY! It\u2019s the only career for me!<\/p>\n

We are so thankful for Wendy\u2019s contribution to the field. She truly is an amazing nurse. Her passion shines through in every patient she cares for. It\u2019s not an easy job, and oftentimes can be quite thankless, but we am so thankful for her and all the nurses that work tirelessly every day to provide care for their patients.
