Wilderness Medicine

Little Wilderness School brings medicine, science, and the importance of health to children in an entertaining, exciting, and fun way. Our program will teach children about some of the dangers in the wild and how to safely handle a medical situation. Our Future Emergency Medics will learn about snake bites, hypothermia, how to tie a tourniquet splint a broken leg, filter dirty water, 20 uses of a bandana, how to treat bug bites, and so much more! Our classes are led by a trained Little Medical School instructor.

Here are a few of the topics that will be discussed:

Snake Bites

  1. Learn about poisonous snakes and the types of venom
  2. Understand the steps that must be taken when someone is bitten by a snake
  3. Review how to properly treat a snake bite

Hypothermia

  1. Know the signs and symptoms of hypothermia
  2. Tell the difference between mild, moderate and severe hypothermia
  3. Practice treating hypothermia and know when to get medical attention

Water Safety

  1. Know how dirty or contaminated water can cause disease
  2. Discuss ways to clean water so it is safe to drink and use
  3. Make a water filter to clean water

Tourniquets and Broken Bones

  1. Apply a tourniquet and understand when to use one
  2. Splint a broken leg
  3. Know what steps to take if someone injures themselves in the wilderness

Mosquitoes

  1. Learn how mosquitos spread disease
  2. Learn fun facts about mosquitos
  3. Understand how to protect yourself from getting bitten

Little Veterinarian School

NEW! Little Equine School

Our Vet Med students will learn all about horses and their care from the NEWEST Little Medical School Equine program. Students will adopt and name their plush horse and learn the anatomy and maintenance of a horse. They will also learn basic horse nutrition, riding styles, gaits and role-play and basic key responsibilities of an equine veterinarian and so much more.

Dog/Vet Office Functions:

Students will role-play the key staff functions performed at a veterinary office and how to keep their "adopted" plush puppy healthy. These future veterinarians will explore digestion, the different parts of the canine eye, animal body language and how X-rays are used to diagnose and treat common illnesses and so much more.

  • Caring for Your Horse
  • Dog Digestion
  • Dog's Body Language

All programs are written by experienced educators, board-certified physicians and trained healthcare professionals. Our classes are led by a trained Little Medical School® Instructor.
