What is a Live Online Interactive Little Medical School Program?
Little Medical School – Calgary offers unique live interactive and engaging online classes that spark your kids imaginative learning covering many disciplines of the medical field while also inspiring them with a rich experience to ignite their interest in medical careers in the futureThe online class is real-time session which promotes interaction with our instructors and students, letting them talk, answer and ask questions, and perform activities together with other kids. Our online program include our most popular courses where students will explore the exciting field of medicine from home using a safe and secure video conferencing technology and premium LMS educational materials delivered contactless to your address prior to the start of the program.

How different is a LMS Live Online Interactive Program versus others?

This is not an ordinary online class!

  • Each LMS student will receive a premium LMS educational hands-on materials “Doctor’s Kit” delivered contactless to your address which will be used during the online program and for keeping. It means parents don’t have to rush, find and buy materials in order for their kids to join the activities. Did we say FREE shipping if within Calgary and only +$15 for other locations?
  • Our online classes will be 45 minutes each once a week (5 classes). This is still within the recommended screen time guidelines for children 5 and above per Alberta Health which is 2 hours per day.
  • Students will also be instructed to complete an offline/homework “at home” activities after each live virtual session to help them get engaged with the topics even after the live session ends.
  • Students may be asked to present their “at home” homework on the next session for class interaction.
  • Registration spots per program will be limited to 12 to ensure an engaging online atmosphere for students.

In-Person Programs 2021

What additional measures will LMS-Calgary do for Covid-19 safety?

Keeping in mind the safety of our children, staff and volunteers, we have put in place our Covid-19 Safety and Precautionary Procedures and Guidelines for In-Person Programs and will always update it according to Alberta Health Services Guidance. We are also working together with our partner community center or recreation center in providing a safe environment for our kids.

 

 

 

Summer Camps 2021

What are Little Medical School Virtual Summer Camps?

Little Medical School – Calgary Summer Camps will now be offered in two options: Virtual Summer Camps 2021 and In-Person Summer Camps 2021!

How different is a LMS Virtual Summer Camp versus others?

This is not an ordinary virtual summer camp!

What is your response to the Covid-19 situation?

We are all together in this uncertain times of pandemic. Little Medical School – Calgary is here to help parents have to a choice, whether you prefer online classes or in-person programs for your child. For our in-person programs, we have put up a Covid-19 safety and precautionary measures in place guided by Alberta Health Services and Alberta Education. Check our FAQ for our live online interactive programs and in-person programs.

Where are the classes being held for in-person programs?

The standard six week long in-person programs are typically held at community centers, recreation centers, your child’s school or even churches’ hall. You can select the location where to register your child. You can also request us to come to your location of choice. Contact us for more information.

Are the instructors thoroughly background checked?

Absolutely! Your child’s safety is a top priority for Little Medical School – Calgary.  Each instructor and volunteer must pass a thorough background check before being hired or allowed to teach classes.

Where are the Birthday Parties held?

The great thing about this is YOU get to decide where to have your party! The possibilities are virtually endless! We will come to a location of your choice to lead a fun-filled, unique and educational program for your child’s birthday. Previous locations have included — country clubs, recreational centers, neighborhood clubhouses, churches, homes, etc.

How do I know if you are offering classes at my child’s school?

You will see the location when you register your child for the class. Camps, badge classes and custom classes will be held at various locations which will be shown on the registration page.  Don’t see it??  Just let us know who to speak with at your child’s school and we’ll make it happen!!

Do you divide the classes by age?

We follow the Mixed-Aged Grouping teaching philosophy.  Mixed-Aged Grouping allows the teacher to focus on teaching each child according to his or her own strengths, unlike in same-grade classrooms that often expect all children to learn at the same pace.  The spirit of cooperation and caring in this environment makes it possible for children to help each other as individuals, not see each other as competitors and often allows the older children to have the opportunity to serve as mentors and to take leadership roles.

What courses are best suited for Pre K students?

We have specific courses, Little Medical School 1 PREK and we have Little Veterinary School for PREK, that are both focused on lessons and techniques for 4-5 year old students.

Do any of the courses require a prerequisite?

No! Any course can be attended at any time.

Are any public classes available?

What is the age range or grade level you provide classes for?

Our curriculum can be used from Pre-K to around 7th grade.  Content and teaching style will vary depending on the age group we are instructing.  Our class supplies and materials are safety rated for ages 4 and up.

Who will be instructing the classes?

Our instructors are primarily college students or recent graduates who are pursuing careers in the healthcare field. This includes pre-med/medical students, PA students, EMTs, nurses and nursing students.  We may also have some teachers/education majors with an interest in healthcare as well.

Are the instructors thoroughly background checked?

What are your scheduled times and days to hold courses at our school?

We have a flexible instructor base, so we will work with you and your school’s availability that will best maximize our course enrollments.

Potential Instructors

What level of education do I need?

Our ideal instructors are degree graduates of science (biology, chemistry), nursing, veterinary, pharmacy, dental and medical students, international medical school graduates (IMG), and international educated nurses (IEN). We also welcome teachers/education majors with an interest in children and healthcare as well.

Do I have to be a pre-medical student to be an instructor?

No. While our instructors are primarily college or graduate students who are working in or pursuing careers in the healthcare field (pre-med/medical students, PA students, nurses or nursing students), anyone with an interest in teaching children about their bodies and a passion for health can apply.

Can being an Instructor count towards the requirements of my degree/certification?

Yes it can! However, we will need to discuss this with someone in your college/graduate program to help you make this official. Contact us to get started.

How much will I get paid?

Pay is discussed on interview. We provide a competitive hourly pay compared to other child enrichment providers.

What Girl Scout badge classes are available?

We have First Aid Badge Class, Pet Badge Class and My Best Self badge class.

Do you offer Boy Scout badge classes?

We are have the First Aid Badge class, My Best Self Badge class, and My Pet Badge class.

Does Little Medical School purchase the badges or is that the responsibility of the troop leaders?

As we continue to grow our badge programs we will work on incorporating badges in the cost of our classes.  At this time the badges will need to be purchased by the troop leaders.

How long are the badge classes?

Our badge classes typically last about 60 minutes.
