Little Medical School of the Treasure Coast Partners Up With the Oxbow Eco Center

We recently taught a class for the Oxbow Eco-Center for the first time! Read more about our partnership with them and experiences from our instructors teaching it.

What kind of classes have you done for the Oxbow Eco-Center?

Instructor Ms. Melanie: This is the first one! Whoo!

How did you begin to work with them?

Instructor Ms. Melanie: We attended their Earth Day festival and did a demonstration in Wilderness Medicine at our booth. It was a ton of fun and we have been in touch since then to chat about ways we can work together this summer.

What is it like teaching there for Little Medical School of the Treasure Coast?

Instructor Ms. Melanie: It was exciting to be there for the first time and integrate into their summer camp. We had a great time learning all about the heart 🙂

What were you hesitant about going into this summer there?

Instructor Ms. Melanie: Nothing really, their team is so nice and we felt very welcome there. It was a unique chance for us to work together for the first time and provide our classes to more kids in the Port Saint Lucie community.

What do you hope to do the next time you’re there?

Instructor Ms. Melanie: I hope we can continue to teach more classes there and maybe even do a full summer camp there next year!

What was that day at Oxbow Eco-Center like?

Instructor Ms. Melanie: So nice, we were inside for this class but the weather was lovely and everyone was excited to spend the hour together.

How important do you think this kind of educational class is for the Port Saint Lucie community?

Instructor Ms. Melanie: I think kids need a lot of variety and experiences in the summer to stay busy and keep learning. Working together has allowed us to be that for kids and get together to teach meaningful topics that kids can use in emergency situations.
